Animal Collective

Grizzly Bear, of all places, have posted an mp3 of Animal Collective's "Brother Sport" on their sporadic (but awesome) blog. I don't think anyone will be disappointed with the outcome of this much hyped about track for it is, in Ed's words, "Gorgeousness!". Merriweather Post Pavilion comes out January 20th, 2009. I can't wait to here the whole album.

Enfant Terrible

Thank you to Fuck You On A Friday for turning me onto Enfant Terrible, who are just beginning to spark interest in the blog world. The French trio specializes in producing house influenced electronic pop with dirty grooves and heavy base, in a similar vein as Crystal Castles. Except that "P. Clo"'s enchanting voice is nothing like Alice's, but reminds me slightly of Bjork's voice, due to the echoing effect employed in "Eagles", giving off a very feral, indigenous, quality despite all the processed sounds circling through out the song. I hope to see more material from these guys come 2009.

Nodzzz

Nodzzz is a post punk band from San Fransisco that has grown on me the more I listen to them; from their first single "I Don't Wanna (Smoke Marijuana)" to their now present ten song, self-titled debut, which was released today. Their songs are so infiltrated with child like jubilance and good nature that one fills the need to cheer them on even when the occasional whiny vocal cuts through the speakers. The lo-fi production of the tracks, which do not exceed the three minute mark, only adds to the sense of scrappy freewheelingness that suits their subject matter perfectly. The group played yesterday at The Part Time Punks Festival and will also be playing tonight with the Vivian Girls and Love Is All tonight at The Smell, with whom they will continue with on their west coast tour. A great line up, which is recommended for all to see.

No Age

It looks weird not seeing No Age headline Part Time Punks for they fit in perfectly with the line up, not to mention its at one of their home venues, but alas, the two will be playing tonight at the Gargoyle Club in St. Louis with Titus Andronicus and Soft Circle. There is however something to be heard of from the duo for those of us who are not in St. Louis, and that is their new Teen Creeps 7", released earlier this week, with the new track "Intimate Descriptions" as the b-side. The track serves as a good supporter to "Teen Creeps". With groany electronics that gradually build with the sparse clicking of sticks and the beating of a tom in the back round the song drops off suddenly leaving the last line to conclude alone, "So my mind just melts away". Which sort of helps to describe the anxious monotony the track inspires.

Clinic/DFA

James Murphy has done what he does best and funkified Clinic's latest single "Tomorrow" with enough synth thrashing, and rhythm shifts to make anybody happy. This is why we love DFA. Clinic's single, which will be released November 24th, will also include the new track "Hijack".

Warpaint

LA residents, Warpaint, just finished up their first EP, Exquisite Corpse, released by themselves. I'm not sure where to find it but have picked up this single, "Billy Holiday". These girls have a beautiful, slightly gritty, pop essence surrounding them, which kind of reminds me of my first reaction to Cat Power. Yet unlike Cat Power there are three of them with Dave Orlando ("King David") on drums. With all girls singing the song is filled out completely with beautiful, intertwining harmonies. You will be able to catch them at the Echo's Part Time Punks Festival on November 16th.

Zombie Nation

This is to late for Halloween but it will never the less spark interest. Zombie Nation (aka Jon Starlight, Splank, and one half of ZZT) will be releasing his Forza single November 10th with remixes by Fukkk Offf and Housemeister included. This should raise some eyebrows on the dance floor. The "Zombie Sound" exists as "funky, dirty grooves between electro and house, with bass-laden raw energy". And don't just take it from me.

Erol Alkan: “it's fuckin big”
David Dewaele/Soulwax: “electronic track of the year”
Isi/Digitalism: “this track is fucking awesome”

Thom Yorke

I've been thinking and believe that the metric song I posted yesterday was the perfect thing to hear after the election. It appears others were also ecstatic as well, including Thom Yorke, who put up this remix on Dead Air Space.

"in celebration of nov 5th
jonnys burthday
amid bonfire and fireworks in the UK
and the dawn of a new era in politics in the USA
i humbly donate a remix of harrowdown hill that was finished ages ago during the band webcasts,
a small reminder of the dark days of Bush's....
x "

Happy birthday Jonny.

James Murphy + Hockey Night = ?

James Murphy has a new band and they are hopefully going to be releasing material in the near future on DFA (next year). According to Rodrigo Davies of the BBC:

"Murphy said the new band had been formed by Scott Wells and Paul Sprangers, two former members of Minneapolis band Hockey Night. During the recording, Murphy has been playing some bass and LCD’s Pat Mahoney doing some drumming. He added that some of the members of DFA act Hercules and Love Affair are also contributing."

The record is "a rock record, a classic rock record," says Murphy who is currently mixing the album and will not, along with Mahoney, accompany the group in their live performances. Shucks. Oh well, I can't wait to hear whats being cooked up by Murphy in the studio right now.

Deerhunter/ Atlas Sound

Bradford Cox is a busy man. With his Halloween contributions posted nearly a week in advance, the lead singer of Deerhunter's next project, the remix of Stereolab's "Neon Beanbag", has already hit the web. The remix is under the subtitle "Southern Baptist" due to the preaching heard at the beginning of the track.

Also, on Halloween Deerhunter gave away an exclusive cassette tape of their Platts Eyott Session, at their Microcastle release party. "The idea behind the session was in memory of John Peel and his famous radio 1 sessions. [Thus] Bradford Cox recorded the songs like a continuous stream of consciousness; the session is intended to be listened to in order and uninterrupted."

"The On Platts Eyott Island Session will be released on 200 strictly limited edtion cassettes, 100 orange, 100 pink. The orange are ONLY available at Deerhunter's Halloween show in Atlanta, Georgia. For a chance to win one of the pink cassettes," as well as stream it, click here.
