I'm not quite sure what sputnikmusic when they said this about Greg Gillis' new album, but I'm pretty sure its something along the lines of "Girl Talk is fucking great for what it is (sampling popular artists to create his own luscious dance tracks).

Carney

Carney is a young rock band among countless others trying to make a name for themselves in Los Angeles. Yet the group sets themselves apart from others with the incredible rock persona that seems to drip from Reeve and Zane Carney's guitars and vocals, while John David Lipscomb and Jon Epcar hammer away on bass and drums. The group, brothers and all, remind me of the The Allman Brothers southern rock feel, especially on the track "Testify", posted below. Yet despite this weighted rock sound that Carney projects, their songs like "There She Goes" draw on lighter influences as well, such as The Beatles. Carney does an incredible job of revitalising a sound forged before their time. The bands first EP Nothing Without You was released May 6th.

Sniperlite

"In late 2005 Ghostface Killa and MF DOOM were both recording over tracks from J Dilla's instrumental opus, Donuts, which saw release the following February. Some of these were released on Ghostface's Fishscale in 2006, while others, including a Dilla-Doom project, were postponed indefinitely after J Dilla's passing. Two of these tracks, “Sniperlite” and “Murder Goons,” will be released digitally, exclusively through Stones Throw's webstore, due to launch in late June."(via. Stonesthrow.com)

Ghost Bees

Ghost Bees is a band who's songs I have been hoarding for quite some time and have really come to love. The twins, Romy and Sara Lightman, voices though sharp and distinct, harmonize beautifully to project the fantastic imagery of their great-grand mothers dark past. When the two bards were asked "Your album reminds me a lot of Joanna Newsom’s fantastical, imagery-laden songs. Who would you say your influences are?", by exclaim.ca, they answered:

"We’ve been getting a lot of those comparisons. Obviously what Joanna Newsom does in a sort of cabaret/experimental/contemporary folk music category is pretty great, but she’s also tapping into something like we are. I feel more influenced by literary figures and authors than musicians. I guess Leonard Cohen is a pretty big influence of mine, as well as Flannery O’Connor and other grotesque storytellers that can convey these beautiful images that are dark. Also, older Hungarian and Eastern European and traditional folk songs have been an influence for us."

Also on the subject of electronic bit-crush beats, their is a new Dj-Kicks album comin out.



The Dj-Kicks albums are a series of DJ mix albums, mixed by various artists for the independent record label !K7 records.Everyone remembers the Hot Chip Dj-Kicks mix? Well the group has also put forth mixes by Four-Tet, Thievery Corporation, and many others, and now it seems that Burial will be added to this list with the release of their mix on June 23rd.

!K7 records gives use some insight into the mixes contents.
